Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmon, attends award of Scottish herring MSC certification
Scotland's pelagic fishing sector has celebrated its acheivement at being awarded MSC status for its North Sea herring fishery at a presentation ceremony attended by Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond and MSC chief executive Rupert Howes.
Certified by Food Certification International (FCI) the Scottish North Sea herring fishery is the first large-scale UK based fishery to acheive MSC certification to date.
FCI is also contracted to carry out the assessment of the Scottish Western mackerel fishery for the same client, the Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group (SPSG).
